Sir Terry Wogan Lends His Voice To Tomtom for Children In Need

Our friends over at Tomtom have just announced that they will be doing their bit for Children In Need this year by offering some of the most recognizable BBC celebrity voices for download.

The voices available are Sir Terry Wogan, Alan Dedicoat (that’s the National Lottery’s Voice Of The Balls to you), Radio 2’s Sally “Traffic” Boazman and Lynn Bowles, the BBC’s Welsh traffic reporter. OK, so there not quite the likes of Kim Cattrall or Mr. T but it is for a good cause and will still make your GPS into an entertaining one.

This year's BBC Children in Need takes place on Friday 14 November. Full information is available at http://www.bbc.co.uk/pudsey/. GBP37 million was raised in 2007, which will support thousands of disadvantaged children and young people across the UK.

You can here examples of the voices by clicking here.

Tomtom GO930: The Gadget You Can't Live Without

The Tomtom GO930 has won the award of The Gadget You Can't Live Without. At the 2nd annual Garmin T3 Gadget Awards the Tomtom GO930 was a clear favorite as it was voted by readers with over 54,000 votes cast.

The device had some tough competition too. It was up against Apples revolutionary Iphone as well as the Nintendo's Wii.

'Results like these are the reason we felt it was so important to include reader-voted categories in our awards,' says Michael Brook, Editor of T3 magazine. 'You might see stories about sat nav gaffes in the press, but the fact is that these are almost always down to human error and GPS systems are an indispensable piece of kit for many drivers. TomTom has long been a leading figure in the sat nav market, and this award shows that the GO930 has earned its place alongside design icons such as the iPod, in the technology halls of fame.'

There is so much I could say about the show but I think I will let the trailer below speak for itself.

Mr. T For England

This weekend holds international world cup qualifiers in Football (AKA - Soccer). Being from England, it goes without saying; I support but also get very frustrated with the England football team. So you can imagine my delight this morning when I read that I need not worry too much about England anymore as we have Mr. T on the team. Mr. T?

That's right, Mr. T. OK, so not the real Mr. T who is famous for his fear of flying, but Mr. Wayne Rooney who has been nicknamed Mr. T because of that very reason. According to ex-England teammate Jamie Carragher, Wayne Rooney got dubbed as Mr. T after the 22 year old was screaming like a baby in a turbulent flight back on 2006. In Carragher's, tell all book, he explains how Rooney's wailing drowned out the cries of women and children. He says, "I'd never heard howling like it."

New York Times Shout Out

Navtones got a shout out on David Pogue's blog for the New York Times today.

Mr. Pogue says, "You gotta love, though, the latest from Tom Tom: you can buy, for $13, any of 25 replacement voices. So instead of hearing the usual monotone GPS Lady telling you to turn right in 500 feet, you hear John Cleese, Burt Reynolds, Dennis Hopper, Mr. T, Curt Shilling, Gary Busey, or, now, Kim Cattrall."

He also comments that he hasn't tried any of the voices yet so doesn't know if the voices become annoying. Well, as I'm sure you will all agree, how can anyone get annoyed with Mr. T, Kim Cattrall or Dennis Hopper giving you turn-by-turn directions? Navtones adds entertainment to your GPS and Mr. T pity's any fool who disagrees.

Hop In At Number 9

OK, so talking dogs are topping the box office but An American Carol has had a great opening week climbing to number 9 in the box office charts.

An American Carol, directed by David Zucker has an array of stars including the one and only Dennis Hopper. I have not yet been to see the movie but due to its political tone the film is gathering a lot of attention. I can only imagine that we will see the film climb higher up the box office charts this week as people realize they need a laugh about politics, while in real life serious politics dominant the headlines.

How it fares:

1 - Beverly Hills Chihuahua $29,000,000
2 - Eagle Eye Paramount Pictures $17,700,000
3 - Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist $12,000,000
4 - Nights in Rodanthe $7,355,000
5 - Appaloosa $5,015,000
6 - Lakeview Terrace $4,500,000
7 - Burn After Reading $4,083,000
8 - Fireproof $4,069,000
9 - An American Carol $3,810,000
10 - Religulous $3,500,000

A Royal Bunch Of Amateurs

The British Comedy A Bunch of Amateurs has been selected as this year's Royal Film Performance.

A Bunch of Amateurs was chosen to replace Harry Potter & The half Blood Prince after the release date was pushed back. A Bunch of Amateurs, starring Burt Reynolds will receive a gala screening in front of her majesty, the Queen on November 17th 2008.

Reynolds plays an aging Hollywood star who comes to Britain to play the role of King Lear in what he believes is a big Stratford theater production. Of cause this does not turn out to be the case and the Stratford in question is actually a sleepy village in Suffolk while the theater is an old barn that the villagers want to save by attracting a Hollywood star to perform there.

Billed as "funny and ultimately moving" comedy, A Bunch of Amateurs also starring Imelda Staunton, Sir Derek Jacobi and Samantha Bond is due for release in the UK in December.

Something For The Weekend

Last night saw the return of the brilliant sitcom series, The Office.

I have been a fan of The Office ever since it first aired and watching it last night reminded me of one of the funniest scenes I have ever seen. Being that Navtones is your number one place to go for exclusive celebrity voices for your GPS; I was thinking, just imagine if Michael got his hands on a GPS loaded with Mr. T's voice, or having Dwight with the new Knight Rider GPS in his Pontiac Trans Am. I personally think this would be a very funny scenario to put them in. I mean the clip below is them using just a normal GPS with a standard voice.

Check it out, it's funny stuff!
